About Us

Hi everybody...I am a mixed media acrylic painter from Monroe NC. I have been painting since my early childhood in Pittsfield MA. Although I was an Art major in college (UVA), and also studied graphic art at Johnson and Wales.

The paintings which I am showing here, on Facebook and on my website are heavily textured, using joint compound, cheesecloth, and unprimed canvas; then collaged using old magazines, engineering manuals, coupons, etc. Above this, I'll do the actual acrylic paintings, the subject matter of which are typically street scenes, old cars, or random buildings and sometimes large animals like rhinos, elephants or cows. I use very bright and vivid colors, and high gloss glaze.

A lot of people ask how long it takes me to do a painting, and it's hard to say, since they are done in stages: prep the canvas with joint compound and let dry for a day or so...apply collage with gel medium and let dry...draw the image..and so forth. The end result, I think though, is a lot of fun.

I am presently represented by the Wilde Meyer Gallery in Scottsdale and Tucson, by the Tracy Miller Gallery in Colorado Springs, and by the A.T. Hun Gallery in Savannah. If you have any questions, email me at wwcolt404@gmail.com or you can call me at 704 996-4095. Also visit my website www.billcolt.com.
