Aligning for Growth: Strategies for Labor Market Success in Union County - Public Policy Luncheon

Aligning for Growth: Strategies for Labor Market Success in Union County - Public Policy Luncheon

Union County and the nearby region are continuing to add jobs, with over 140,000 jobs expected to be added through 2030. But, as we hear regularly from Chamber members, finding workers continues to be the number one challenge for employers.

One reason for this is we have work to do in the area of labor market alignment - aligning education for our students with available career opportunities in our community. Join us for an important Public Policy Luncheon focused on the workforce in our area.

We’ll take a look at the Labor Market from a state-wide, regional, and local perspective, examining a historical look at where we were pre-pandemic, what impact the pandemic had, how the labor market has recovered, what the future holds for our local labor market, and strategies to align education with labor market needs..

Speakers:

  • Jonathan Guarine, Economist with the Labor and Economic Analysis Division of the NC Department of Commerce
  • Dr. Heather Miller, Sr. Vice President and Chief of Staff at Wingate University
  • Chris Rivera, Vice President of Business & Workforce Solutions at South Piedmont Community College

This event will also include time for tabletop discussion around the local labor market.

Attendees will leave the luncheon with a better understanding of:
  • The current state of the labor market
  • What it means for employers and job seekers
  • The future of our local labor market
  • Opportunities for Labor Market Alignment
