The Union County Chamber announced the recipient of the 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award today.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to an individual for a lifetime of consistent contributions to his business, his chosen industry, and to his community.  The recipient’s influence and contributions have made a tangible impact on the lives of those around him, his community, and his place of business.  The recipient is chosen by an independent volunteer committee from nominations made by the community.

This year’s recipient of this prestigious award is John Hendley, President of Brewer-Hendley Oil Company.  Mr. Hendley founded Hendley Enterprises in the mid 1960’s with one oil truck.  In 1982, Hendley and Bill Brewer partnered to form Brewer-Hendley Oil Company.  This award-winning second-generation company has grown to include six divisions.

In addition to Hendley’s professional success, he has been active in community service for years.  He currently serves on the Board of Trustees for Wingate University and as Vice-Chair of the Monroe-Union County Economic Development Board of Advisors.

Mr. Hendley is a past member of the Board of Trustees for South Piedmont Community College and a past member of the South Piedmont Community College Foundation Board.  He is an active member of Central United Methodist Church.

“The Union County Chamber is proud to recognize John Hendley with our most prestigious recognition -- the 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award,” said Pat Kahle, President of the Union County Chamber.  “John is a successful businessman, active community leader, and a champion for economic development in Union County and beyond.  John has a heart for this community and all who live here. He serves without seeking recognition or gratitude which makes this recognition even more meaningful.”

Mr. Hendley will be presented the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Union County Chamber’s Annual Gala on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at the Union County Ag Center.  Last year over 550 business and community leaders attended the event.
