Dr. Christine Mann Darden, Retired NASA Scientist and Leader in Sonic Boom Research
Included in Margot Lee Shetterly's book, Hidden Figures, Dr. Christine Darden followed the three African American scientists portrayed in the popular film Hidden Figures, five years after their story. As a Monroe, North Carolina native, Dr. Darden became a high school mathematics teacher who later served as a mathematics instructor at Virginia State College. This path lead her to NASA in the 1960s as a woman of color in a male-dominated industry who worked her way from a human computer to Senior Executive Service in the Langley Research Center, where she retired in March 2007. All while earning her Doctorate and raising three children.
Hear from these influential women as they discuss overcoming obstacles in their lives and how they turned those obstacles into opportunities!
