Ginger Heath, an award winning actress who is familiar to audiences in the entire Metrolina area, brings the heart-warming play, A Trip to Bountiful, and its central character Carrie to Union County audiences in a Union County Playmakers’ Readers Theater production. Bountiful will be performed at 3 p.m. on Aug. 27 at the Playmakers’ theater space in Monroe Crossing Mall. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors, and may be purchased through the Playmakers’ website at www.unioncountyplaymakers.org.
Heath, who is the vice president of Playmakers, won the Metrolina Theatre Association’s (MTA) award for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in Lead Role for playing Carrie in a previous production of the drama. Heath also received national recognition for her lifetime achievement by the American Association of Community Theatre in New York and local recognition with the Heart of the Arts Lifetime Achievement Award.
Playing the role of the protective son Ludie is Tommy Wooten, a Union County native and a professional actor/director for 25 years. He is the former Show Director of Talent Casting for Universal Studios Florida. He is now Artistic Director of The Ansonia Theatre in Wadesboro, where his production of Bountiful received five MTA Award nominations including Best Play.
Written by Horton Foote, A Trip to Bountiful tells the story of an elderly woman who longs to escape the cramped Houston apartment where she lives with her son and her authoritarian daughter-in-law. The woman wants to return to her beloved hometown of Bountiful, Texas, one final time before she dies. The play is about the myth of an idea called home.
The production will be presented as Readers Theater, which requires no sets or staging, but relies on the strong acting ability of the cast. This Playmakers’ production features a cast of seasoned theater veterans and the play itself provides opportunities for memorable performances.
Playmakers is supported by the Union County Community Arts Council and
the Grassroots Program of the North Carolina Arts Council, a state agency.
